    Department of Defense Summer 2005 Internship Opportunities Program :

This is a seven week summer research experience at one of several United States Army Research facilities around the country with a total internship value of $10,000. In  addition to seven weeks on site at a research laboratory, the student will have the opportunity to recieve further funding, in the amount of $2,000, for research efforts during the Fall 2005 semester.
Internship Eligibility Requirements:
  • U.S. citizen and fall under at least one of the four categories indicated (African American, Asian Pacific Islander American, American Indian/ Alaskan Native or Hispanic Amerian);
  • Currently enrolled in a minority institution as defined by the U.S. Department of Education;
  • Declared major in a science, technology engineering, and mathematics (STEM) disciplines;
  • Qualified as a Junior or Senior by June 2005 based on University/ College classification guidelines;
  • Have a grade point average of 3.2 on a scale of 4.0;
  • (Subject to funding ability, students with an overall GPA of 3.0 or a 3.0 GPA in their major field of study will be considered for this internship);

Free admission is granted to college and professional women.

Eployers that will be recruiting at the expos include: American Express, Cannon USA, Crate & Barrel,  Home Depot, IRS, Master Card, MetLife, NASD, Panasonic, Pfizer, Southwest Airlines, Staples, Target, U.S. Department of State, U.S. Secret Service, and Wal-Mart. These are just a few of the many recruiting opportunities which vary at each location.

The Leadership Alliance:

The Leadership Alliance is a consortium of 29 institutions nationwide of which PVAMU is a member. They  are sponsoring a paid, summer 2005, undergraduate research experience.The stipend amount varies based on the host institution.

Research opportunities are available in a variety of areas (life sciences, physical sciences, social sciences, humanities, engineering, computer science and applied mathematics).

Research opportunities are available at such prestigious institutions as Harvard, Yale, Columbia, Howard, Stanford, University of Puerto Rico and 13 other research institutions.

Student eligibility:

  • Minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA
  • Completed at least two undergraduate semesters and have at least one semester remaining in undergraduate school by the start of the summer program
  • Demonstrated interest and potential to pursue graduate study
  • Documented U.S. citizenship or permanent resident status

The program is NOT designed for students pursuing non-academic careers in law, business administration, clinical medicine, clinical psychology or the allied health professions.

Deadline: All application material must be mailed to the Leadership Alliance by February 1, 2005.
