Teacher Education Program

 

Option 1 - Teaching Full-Time
 
OPTIONS 1, 2, AND 3 REQUIRE admission to the Graduate School, admission to the Teacher Education program in the College of Education, 9 hours of prerequisite undergraduate courses, and 12 hours of graduate Curriculum and Instruction (CUIN) courses.
 
Option 1 is limited to those teaching on full-time emergency certificates for two years in secondary discipline area, while seeking certfication.
 
Two of the three following courses (6 hours in lieu of student teaching or internship):
 
EDFN 5113 Psychology of Learning and Development
EDFN 5123 Socio-cultural Issues
CURR 5003 Theory and Dynamics of Curriculum and Instruction
 
No courses may be taken until the student has been admitted to the Graduate School.
 
For admission to the Teacher Education Program, candidates must fulfill the following requirements.

      Must be admitted to the Graduate School;
      Must have passing scores on the TASP - Reading 260, Writing 220, Math 230;
      Must complete and submit the Teacher Education Admission Packet;
      Must have a 2.5 cumulative GPA

The Nine Prerequiste Undergraduate Courses must be in these areas.

      Computer Education (3 hours)
      Speech Communication (3 hours)
      Reading Methods (3 hours)

Twelve Hours of Curriculum and Instruction (CUIN) Courses
 
       Fall Semester or Summer I

      CUIN 5003 Foundations of Secondary Schools
      CUIN 5013 Developmental Characteristics of Secondary School Youth
 
       Spring Semester or Summer II
 
       CUIN 5023 Strategies for Planning and Assessing Instruction
       CUIN 5033 Research-Based Methods for Classroom Instruction and Management
